Garlic Butter Salmon Shrimp Bake
Some recipes feel special the moment they come out of the oven, and this Garlic Butter Salmon & Shrimp Bake is definitely one of them.
The salmon turns tender and flaky, the shrimp stay juicy, and everything gets coated in a rich garlic-butter sauce with lemon, herbs, and just a touch of smoky paprika. As it bakes, the onions soften and soak up all those buttery pan juices, making the whole dish smell warm, savory, and incredibly inviting.
It’s the kind of meal that looks impressive enough for guests but is simple enough to make on a relaxed weeknight. You only need one baking dish, a handful of everyday seasonings, and about half an hour to bring everything together.
And when you spoon those golden garlic-butter juices back over the salmon and shrimp just before serving, every bite becomes even more flavorful.
Ingredients
- 1 large salmon fillet, about 2 pounds (900 g)
- 1 pound (450 g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 medium onions, sliced into wedges
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, optional
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
- Lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a large baking dish or roasting pan so everything releases easily once baked.
In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, olive oil, minced garlic, lemon juice, smoked paprika, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if you’re using them.
Stir everything together until the mixture looks smooth and glossy. The smell of warm butter, garlic, and lemon already gives you a good idea of how flavorful the finished dish will be.
Pat the salmon dry with paper towels and place it in the center of the prepared baking dish.
Arrange the onion wedges around it.
Brush about half of the garlic-butter mixture generously over the salmon. Make sure the top and sides are well coated so the seasoning reaches every bite.
Place the dish in the oven and bake for 10 minutes.
While the salmon starts cooking, add the shrimp to a bowl and toss them with the remaining garlic-butter mixture.
After the first 10 minutes, carefully remove the baking dish from the oven.
Arrange the seasoned shrimp around the salmon and onions, spreading them out as evenly as possible.
Return everything to the oven and bake for another 8–12 minutes.
The shrimp should turn opaque and tender, while the salmon should flake easily with a fork. For food safety, fish should reach an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
If you want a deeper golden finish, switch the oven to broil for the final 1–2 minutes.
Keep a close eye on it during this step. The butter and garlic can brown quickly, and you want that beautiful golden color without letting anything burn.
Once the dish comes out of the oven, spoon the buttery pan juices generously over the salmon and shrimp.
Finish with freshly chopped parsley and a squeeze of lemon.
Presentation
This dish already looks beautiful straight from the oven, especially with the pink shrimp arranged around the golden salmon and softened onions.
For a simple presentation, serve the salmon whole on a large platter with the shrimp scattered around it. Spoon a little of the garlic-butter sauce over everything just before bringing it to the table.
Add fresh parsley and lemon wedges around the edges for a bright, fresh finish.
It pairs wonderfully with fluffy rice, roasted potatoes, creamy mashed potatoes, pasta, or crusty bread. The bread is especially good for soaking up every last drop of those buttery garlic juices.
For something lighter, serve it with roasted asparagus, green beans, broccoli, or a crisp salad.
